Sweet potatoes of Lanzarote

Today was a day of relaxing. As usual, I woke up and started with some morning yoga. I then enjoyed the rest of the day with some reading. I just started The Creative Act by Rick Rubin. It is so beautifully written, I want to pinch myself! It’s all about creativity, and how all of us have it within us, it’s just about unlocking it. It talks about creativity as a form of energy, and how when we are creative, we are moving with the natural flow of the universe, thus participating in the creative act.

As I was lying on the beach, these tiny woodpeckers kept coming up to me. They’d get so close, almost right up to my arm, almost as if they wanted to sniff me, and then walk away. Nature can be so fickle!

I wanted something warm and hearty for dinner, and I found some Lanzarote lentils in the drawer. I love visiting a new place and taking a cooking class or cooking at home one night with local ingredients and making use with only what you can find while you’re there. I had picked up a sweet potato at the grocery store and I was eager to try it. Although it has the usual dark reddish skin, when I cut into it, it was an unusual white, resembling a Japanese sweet potato.

I’m always trying to get my hands on these in Paris! I simmered the lentils with the sweet potato, onion, garlic, tomatoes and some curry powder I found in the drawer. And may I say…it was delicious!
